Shivas Lives! Reprinted verbatim from Travel & Leisure Golf:
Golf's best-selling work of fiction by far is Golf in the Kingdom, Michael Murphy's 1972 novel about a philosophical young player and Shivas Irons, the mystical golf professional he
encounters in Scotland. Finally it looks as if someone might make a movie of the book.
Over the years, several studios and even Clint Eastwood have owned the rights, but the transcendental nature of the material made it a tough sell. Now some investors, including
Murphy and people associated with the nonprofit Shivas Irons Society, have acquired the rights and plan to film this fall at Oregon's Bandon Dunes. Expect lots of bagpipes and a lyrical
feel, but not Sean Connery. At seventy-four, the longtime favorite to play the athletic Irons would need more than the spiritual force of True Gravity to be convincing. Click here to see the above writeup in its original context.>>
