Susan Streitfeld

Susan Streitfeld is a graduate of New York University Film School. She worked in various areas of film production during her two years in New York with independent films and in Washington D.C. with the Smithsonian In-House Film Unit.

She moved to Los Angeles to join the faculty of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts/West as an acting teacher and director. Active in the theatre community, she has directed numerous productions for 99-seat theatres in Los Angeles; including Megan Terry's HOTHOUSE, Arthur Kopit's CHAMBERMUSIC and the world premiere of John Cassavetes' EAST/WEST GAME with Nick Cassavetes. Ms. Streitfeld received several awards for her stage direction, including the L.A. Weekly's Best Production of 1991 for her twenty-fifth anniversary production of THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE.

Ms. Streitfeld became a theatrical agent in 1983 for Triad Artists.  She championed independent and foreign films, packaging clients Danny Glover in Charles Burnett's TO SLEEP WITH ANGER, Ed Harris in Alex Cox's WALKER, Colin Firth in APARTMENT ZERO, Daniel Day-Lewis in MY LEFT FOOT, Norma Aleandro in GABY, and Gregory Peck in OLD GRINGO. She was the American representation for John Hurt, Juliette Binoche, Ian Holm, and Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, the Argentinian director Louis Puenzo, the Brazilian director Suzanna Amaral, and the production designer Barbara Ling (BATMAN, THE DOORS, etc.), among others.

She left the agency in 1990 to find and develop a film project to direct.  In 1991 she optioned Louise J. Kaplan's FEMALE PERVERSIONS, nominated for the National Book Award that year. 

The film FEMALE PERVERSIONS, which she co-wrote, starred Tilda Swinton and premiered at Sundance 1996 in the dramatic competition. It opened in Europe and Australia in the fall of 1996, Asia in 1998, and America in April of 1997, distributed by October Films.  FEMALE PERVERSIONS was invited to many film festivals and was awarded the audience award at Creteil, France, the largest women's film festival in the world. The film received great critical acclaim, including Siskel and Ebert's "Two Thumbs Up".

Ms. Streitfeld wrote and directed THE SUMMER OF MY DEFLOWERING, a half-hour film commissioned by Regina Ziegler and the German Arts station WDR for their erotic tale series in 2001.

She recently completed an original script entitled GIRLHERO.

Ms. Streitfeld has co-written a script of Michael Murphy's GOLF IN THE KINGDOM, which she is set to direct. The film's production schedule will be announced soon.
